Last month, we introduced you to our son, Alex, who recently joined our talented bench jeweler pool and who represents the fifth generation of our family in the jewelry business. We are loving the new work environment with Alex around! He brings a breath of fresh air, a new set of eyes and a whole new level of creativity to the business,. He’s fitting in just perfect and we couldn’t be happier! As you will know from last month’s blog, Alex is a recent graduate of the Jewelry Design School at Gem City College, Quincy, Illinois and is on his way to continuing the history and tradition of our business, which goes all the way back to 1902.
We’re already halfway through 2022 – can you believe it’s already July? What does July mean to you? For many of us, the focal point of this month will be Independence day which is being celebrated this year on Monday July 4th. In the jewelry business, July is all about the ruby. It is July’s official birthstone and we can’t think of a better representation of summer and the 4th of July, than the red-hot, deep red of the ruby.
The ruby is a majestic, exotic stone that captivates all who set eyes on it. Although the deep, rich red color is the most well-known color of ruby, the ruby family actually includes stones from all shades of red to lighter pinks. The lighter pink rubies are unique and just as stunning, albeit somewhat more subtle. But it’s the deep “ruby-red” that we have come to love so much that is the most symbolic of summertime. And guess what? This color is the same color that we find in our flag, so if you want to be totally patriotic this 4th of July, how about sporting some red, white and blue jewelry?
